In 2019 Drs. Randers, Herring and Midkiff combined forces in order to expand and offer patients a wider array of dental treatments. Between the three doctors there is over 50 years of dental knowledge and experience! Come meet our doctors and team to find the best dental care in West Texas.
Dr. Brian Herring grew up northwest of Lubbock on a family farm in Friona, Texas. Dr. Herring earned his dental degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in 2005 in Dallas, using his elective courses to study dental implants, advanced endodontics, and forensic dentistry. He was then invited to stay on as a faculty member at Baylor College of Dentistry and did so for 7 years while maintaining a private practice in Frisco, Texas. In 2013 Dr. Herring moved back to West Texas, purchasing the practice of highly respected, long-time dentist Dr. Ronald Phillips. In 2019 he merged practices with Drs. Randers and Midkiff, creating what is now known as West Texas Dental Associates.
Dr. Herring loves the daily interactions with our patients and hearing everyone’s stories. He finds great fulfillment in using his professional skills to diagnose and treat difficult cases. Dr. Herring also volunteers his services for local community outreach programs such as The Legacy House and Give Kids a Smile.
Professionally, Dr. Herring is the current president for the Lubbock Board of Health and a member of several organizations, including the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, South Plains District Dental Society, and the prestigious Seattle Study Club. He is also a fellow in the International Dental Implant Association.
Dr. Herring is married to the former Lindley Douglass, a Plainview native, and Texas Tech alumna. They have two children, Cameron and Tess, and are active members of the First United Methodist Church of Lubbock. In his free time, you can find him cooking up some mean Texas BBQ, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on the Red Raiders.
Dr. Thomas B. Randers, Jr. (Also known as T.J.), is a 2005 graduate of Baylor College of Dentistry. His undergraduate work was completed at Austin College in Sherman, Texas, where he earned a degree in Biochemistry while also playing collegiate soccer and tennis. Following dental school, Dr. Randers was selected to take part in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program at Baylor College of Dentistry.
In 2006 Dr. Randers moved to Lubbock and started his practice alongside his father-in-law, Dr. John Epperson at Lubbock Family Dental. Dr. Randers’ passion for quality dentistry and detailed care of his patients quickly became well-known. The collaboration of West Texas Dental Associates has allowed for much-needed space and growth for Dr. Randers’ practice.
Once a year you will find Dr. Randers in Peru on the Olive Branch Ministries/Lubbock Christian University’s medical/dental mission trip. This is a unique opportunity to not only make a difference for patients being treated but also mentor students who are studying to enter dental school. He also contributes his time and skills to local organizations such as Lubbock Impact, Cleft Lip, and Palate Clinic, and Give Kids a Smile.
Dr. Randers has many professional affiliations including the South Plains District Dental Society, Texas Dental Association, American Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry (of which Dr. Randers has earned is Fellowship status), and International College of Dentists (a service-oriented Dental Organization). Dr. Randers has also fulfilled multiple hours of continuing education to become certified with Invisalign.
Dr. Randers married Cassie Epperson Randers, a Lubbock native, and LCU alumna, in May of 2005. They have two beautiful daughters, Ellie and Maddie. On Saturday mornings you might find him out tearing up the tennis courts! He also enjoys cheering on the Chaps from time to time and traveling with Cassie and the girls.
Dr. David Midkiff hails from Hobbs, New Mexico. He attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and then West Texas State in Canyon, Texas. He graduated from dental school at Baylor College of Dentistry in 1969.
After graduating Dr. Midkiff set up his private practice in Tahoka, Texas. He practiced solely in Tahoka for 25 years before coming to Lubbock and merging with Dr. Charlie Hall — at first part-time in Tahoka, part-time in Lubbock — and now we’re pleased to have him full time in Lubbock!
Besides providing care and comfort to his patients, Dr. Midkiff enjoys the intrigue and creativity that comes with meeting each patient’s needs. Dr. Midkiff was the first doctor in Lubbock to offer oral DNA testing and worked closely with Drs. Wischmeyer and Bale, two well-known cardiologists, to help bridge the gap between patients’ dental and medical health. Dr. Midkiff was also the first dentist in Lubbock to pioneer the TAP (Thornton Adjustable Positioner) appliance and has a strong focus on dental health as it involves airway and breathing.
Dr. Midkiff continues to be an innovator in his field. He has completed numerous hours of continuing education and two Bale-Doneen preceptor trainings. His expertise and patient care are invaluable to West Texas Dental Associates.
Dr. Midkiff currently serves as treasurer for Teeth Savers International which is a Christian Humanitarian Organization based here in Lubbock, Texas, but serving the world at large. The goal of TSI is to train teams all over the world to do dental exams and minor dental treatment. Has been to Guatemala and Sierra Leone to train teams.
For 25 years Dr. Midkiff has been a contributor to Covenant’s low-income denture, a program which has treated over 1,500 patients.
Dr. Midkiff and his wife, Lexi, have been married since 1974. They have two daughters, Ann Marie Boldrick and Ashley Smith, and five wonderful grandchildren. Out of the office, you might find Dr. Midkiff giving Dr. Randers a run for his money on the tennis courts. He also enjoys reading, gardening, tinkering with his cars, and especially time spent traveling with Lexi.
